[греч. uron — моча]органические одноосновные кислоты, производные моносахаридов, молекулы которых вместо первичной спиртовой группы содержат карбоксильную. Названия У.к. производят от названий соответствующих альдоз путем прибавления к корню окончания "уроновая кислота" (напр., D-глюкуроновая кислота, D-галактуроновая кислота). У.к. широко распространены в природе; наиболее часто встречается D-глюкуроновая кислота, входящая в составе многих растительных гликозидов и полисахаридов (камеди, гемицеллюлозы). Различные токсичные вещества часто выводятся из животных организмов с мочой в виде гликозидов D-глюкуроновой кислоты. D-галактуроновая кислота известна как главный компонент пектинов высших растений. D-маннуроновая и L-гулуроновая кислоты — компоненты альгиновых кислот бурых водорослей, L-идуроновая кислота вместе с D-глюкуроновой входит в состав мукополисахаридов животных тканей.
